My film enters production in two weeks. I have the quote for my rental, all my roles are cast, I’ve secured most of my locations. Things seem like they’re all lining up to work out. Now I need to wait for something to go wrong....

my prediction - you’ll run out of napkins at your wrap party.

You’ll shoot a getaway scene, but the car won’t have defeatable traction control

I haven’t even planned for a wrap party.... I think everyone will be too exhausted.

Sure do. It’s a Bobbitt docu-drama. You in?

It’s part of the plot. All electricity no longer works anywhere on earth.

Hmmm, not quite sure how you got there but I like it. I won’t give out any more details just yet but hopefully I get to share the film with everyone in the not too distant future. Once we wrap production in a couple weeks I enter post-production and then once that is done we start submitting to festivals. Depending on how it turns out I may wait for a good festival for the premiere date.

As someone who has done a few productions, read your talent the riot act about call times. I know about this firsthand.

Oh yeah, I’m well aware. I actually just replaced a cast member because they missed the table read. Not something I wanted to do but when I followed up with them they said they couldn’t do the shoot day either.
This is my second attempt to produce/direct a short film myself and it will be the 4th one I’ve worked on. I was even late myself to the last one because nobody posted the call time the night before until I went to bed and I woke up two hours after call time and the location was an hour away.
On top of that I was asked to gaff so I brought all my lights and stands and stuff and when I get there they say they’re just using available light with no modifiers. At the end of the shoot the director turns to me and says “So you’re editing this, right?” I had originally offered to edit the film and when I did I offered to bring my desktop to the set and edit as we shot. This took me for a shock as I had plans for the next day. Needless to say the whole thing was very hectic but it was a 48 hour competition so that goes with the territory.
Man, that was all a mouthful. Anyways I’ve already seen a ton of things go wrong on set and I’m sure I’ll get some new experiences in a couple weeks.

That’s a big plot point I’d rather not specify.

Fair enough. When do we get to see this fine film, then? You don't just get to leave us hanging like that...

The film is shooting in two weeks. After that we enter post-production and who knows how long that could take (I still need to find a composer that I like and can afford.) Once that is done I will begin submitting to festivals and hopefully get to premiere somewhere decent. Finally once all that is done I will get to share it.
On top of all of this you don’t really learn what caused all this in the short. That is something I want to explore in a feature length film.
